Ascension Sciences participates in $3.3 million Canadian Cannabis Industry research project with Langara College

VANCOUVER, July 13th, 2021 — Ascension Sciences Inc. (“Ascension Sciences”, “Ascension” or “ASI”), an independent laboratory focused on nanoparticle formulation development for cannabinoid therapeutics, is pleased to announce its participation in one of the largest grants ever received by a post-secondary institution in British Columbia. In collaboration with Langara College (Vancouver, BC), the Canadian Cannabis Industry (ASCCI) research project is being supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) with contributions of $2 million and $1.3 million respectively.

Langara College will use the funds to build a foundation of applied research where faculty investigators, students and industry collaborate on a broad spectrum of topics and applications in plant genomics, cell models for cannabinoid therapeutics and optimization of processing. Ascension Sciences’ focus on nano-delivery platforms for cannabinoids will form one of the program pillars as the institution enables the development, validation and study of proprietary formulations for targeted needs.

“We are excited about actively participating in the project and we hope to leverage all the expertise and resources of the college for the benefit of the students, faculty and our own goals of advancing cannabinoid medicines,” said Tomas Skrinskas, CEO of Ascension Sciences. “Research in the cannabis industry and in the development of formulations is sorely needed.  All too often health claims are unsubstantiated, and product development lacks the underlying data to support a medicine that can have an impact on well-being.”
